COUNSELLING &
DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION SERVICES

Neuro-affirming support Human brains naturally vary in their cognitive and neurological functioning. We recognise that neurotypes like Autism, PDA, ADHD, RSD and other neurotypes are variations of the human neurological spectrum. Embracing neurodivergence promotes inclusivity, and values the diverse ways people think and experience the world.
Behaviour support Perceived challenging behaviour refers to actions or conduct that deviate from expected norms, often causing distress or disruption and overwhelm for all parties. It's vital to understand that all behaviour is communication, and behaviour that feels challenging is likely that of unmet needs, that they have not yet learned to express in less challenging ways, especially in individuals with neurodivergent traits. Learning to acknowledge that the challenging behaviour is about an unmet need and that it isn't usually personal, allows you to respond with empathy, and can lay the groundwork to foster understanding, up-skilling and positive outcomes.

Educational or Ability ScreeninG Educational or ability screening involves assessing abilities, learning style, and potential challenges to tailor education or general support effectively. It helps identify diverse learning needs, facilitating early intervention and support. Recognising the value of educational or ability screening promotes inclusive and individualised learning experiences, optimising success for all participants. Depression Depression is a mood disorder characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a loss of interest or pleasure in activities. Recognising depression as a common mental health challenge fosters empathy and encourages seeking help. It promotes a focus on recovery, offering hope to those affected by this condition.

Anxiety AND NERVOUS SYSTEM DISABILITIES Anxiety is a natural human response to stress and perceived threats. It encompasses excessive worry, fear, and physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat. For those who are neurodivergent, and especially those with PDA or RSD you may experience anxiety more intensely than neurotypical counterparts. Understanding anxiety and perceived loss of autonomy normalises its occurrence and reduces stigma. We emphasise the importance of understanding antecedents, and developing coping strategies for you, and helpful strategies for those supporting you.
Trauma Trauma is the emotional and psychological response to distressing or harmful events. It can result from various experiences, such as accidents, abuse, loss or other events. Recognising trauma helps foster understanding and support for those affected, emphasising healing and resilience rather than viewing it solely as a disorder.

Wellbeing Wellbeing is a state of overall health and contentment that encompasses physical, mental, and emotional aspects of life. It emphasises balance, self-care, and a positive sense of fulfillment. By prioritising your wellbeing we help you to on your journey to a holistic and fulfilling life, emphasising happiness/just being ok, and greater life satisfaction.
Social Skills Social skills encompass the ability to communicate, interact, and navigate relationships effectively. They include active listening, empathy, and nonverbal cues, and where these skills may be challenging for some neurodivergent people, we can help identify your preferred way to socialise, when you may be masking, help you advocate for your preferred ways to socialise and communicate to others how they can support this. Understanding the importance of social skills in a neuro-affirming way promotes positive connections and encourages individuals to develop these abilities, enhancing their ability to connect with others and build rewarding relationships.

Relationships Relationships are vital human connections characterised by emotional bonds, trust, and mutual understanding. They come in various forms, such as friendships, family, work colleagues, and romantic partnerships. Healthy relationships promote empathy, effective communication, and healthy dynamics, contributing to fulfilling and supportive connections in one's life. We can help you with self-esteem, confidence, advocacy, conflict, compassionate confrontation and other areas where relationships feel challenging.
